A Character Education programme was conducted in Fiji with the participation of 61 students, providing an opportunity for young people to learn about the importance of character and responsible decision-making. The programme began with a short introduction from the school principal and the master of ceremonies, followed by a lecture that connected character education with social issues affecting young people, including HIV and drug-related concerns. The discussion provided students with basic knowledge about these issues while emphasizing the importance of developing strong character and making choices that protect their well-being and future.

The programme highlighted that character is an important foundation for responding wisely to challenges and pressures that young people may encounter. By connecting practical knowledge about HIV and drugs with values such as responsibility, self-discipline, respect, and care for others, the students were encouraged to understand that their choices can affect not only themselves but also their families and communities. The participation of both students and teachers was supportive, and their positive reactions and reflections demonstrated that the programme was meaningful and relevant to their needs.

The activity served as a valuable opportunity to strengthen character education within the school community and encourage young people to become more conscious of the values guiding their decisions. Through continued education and open discussion of social concerns, students can be better equipped to face challenges with greater awareness, responsibility, and confidence. The supportive response from the students and teachers also provided encouragement for continued efforts to promote character development and values-based education among the youth in Fiji.
