In Loving Memory of Alfonso Buyayo

A Life Devoted to Faith, Family, and Missionary Endeavors

In the panoramic expanse of Kiangan, Ifugao, Alfonso B. Buyayo was brought into the world on April 3, 1960. Born as the sixth among ten siblings, comprising of seven brothers and three sisters, his life would unfold against the backdrop of the serene landscapes of Ifugao.

The foundations of Alfonso’s academic journey were laid in Lagawe, Ifugao, where he completed his elementary education in 1973 and graduated from high school in 1977. His pursuit of higher education led him to Saint Louis University in Baguio City, where he embarked on the challenging path of attaining a degree in Bachelor of Science in Architecture (BS Arch).

Beyond his academic pursuits, Alfonso delved into passionate artistic expressions such as drawing, painting, and carving, in which was deeply family rooted. His affinity for automobiles mirrored a diverse range of interests as well. Characterizing himself as simple, quiet, and humorous, one of his personal mottos was, “I’d rather be funny than smart.” His profound love for nature and the arts painted a vivid picture of a man deeply connected to the world around him.

The initial seven years of Alfonso’s missionary life (1984-1990) were marked by significant contributions. Engaging in Seminar/workshop facilitation, Fundraising activities, and Pioneering endeavors, he left an indelible mark. Notably, the establishment of the Printing Department in Cubao highlighted his commitment to advancing the movement’s objectives. His journey commenced with pioneering in Olongapo City in May 1984, alongside Joseph Amadora.

Venturing through roles in the Construction and Card Making Departments, Alfonso’s trajectory continued with assignments in Antipolo 2 (ALPA) and the Hidalgo Center in Quiapo. The training in Cebu paved the way for the establishment of the Printing Department at the White House business center in Cubao. His missionary efforts culminated with a year-long mission in Davao Center in 1990.

Encountering the movement on February 10, 1984, at the age of 24 in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya, marked a pivotal moment in Alfonso’s life. Full-time commitment ensued on April 20, 1984, immediately after his graduation. A significant milestone was achieved on January 12, 1989, when, at the age of 28, he received the Blessing, a sacred union personally matched by True Parents with Dulce Ebora Buyayo, part of the 1275 COUPLES.

The ensuing seven years (1991-1997) saw Alfonso and his wife’s journey evolve into Commando Mobile Fundraising, Printing Department leadership, the start of family life, and the birth of their eldest daughter, Hwa Young Buyayo. A pivotal role as a Driver and Leader in Commando Mobile Fundraising from 1992 to 1994, followed by responsibilities in the Printing Department from 1995 to 1997, showcased his versatility and commitment.

The subsequent seven-year phase (1998-2004) featured Alfonso and his wife’s pioneering efforts in Batangas, the birth of the triplets (Jane, Jean, and Jaen), and the birth of their youngest daughter, Joan. Recognition by True Parents and publication in TODAY’S WORLD magazine attested to the significance of these events. During this period, he and his wife assumed the role of Regional Leader of Southern Luzon.

The years spanning 2005 to 2011 unfolded with the reopening of the Baguio Center, his appointment as the Executive Director of Northern Luzon, and his role as the Driver for Continental Director Dr. Yong. Alfonso’s gratitude and humility were apparent as he acknowledged the profound blessings bestowed upon him.

In 2013, alongside his wife, Alfonso embraced the role of HTM Leaders at the BINAYOYO TRIBE, as directed by Dr. Chung Sik Yong, Continental Director of Asia. With initial reluctance due to his commitments to a blooming chicken and duck farm in Binayoyo, Alfonso’s perseverance, guided by Dr. Yong’s encouragement, led to the establishment of a vibrant community involved in Divine Principle seminars.

The culminating seven years (2019) featured Alfonso and his wife as the HQ MAINTENANCE and TRANSPORTATION HEAD, the completion of the 430 Ancestor Liberation and Blessing (Vertical) and 430 Couples Blessing (Horizontal), and the joyous occasion of the birth of Yong Chan, the 3rd generation grandchild. The Blessing and marriage of their youngest daughter, Joan Buyayo, to Venjie Takeshi Valiente brought another dimension of joy and fulfillment.

Alfonso’s life was anchored in the profound teachings of Rev. Sun Myung Moon, exemplified by his quote, “Knowing the Principle is like holding a tiger by its tail. Once you let go, it will devour you.” His legacy lives on in the hearts of those he guided, supported, and loved. Alfonso B. Buyayo, a man of unwavering faith, dedication, and humility, will forever be remembered for his pivotal role in the global movement and the enduring love he bestowed upon their family.
